When the Compositor Crashes the Desktop Environment

[This Post will be getting updated whenever possible and necessary.]
(Additional note: Soon I’ll turn this post into a more all around Compositor Settings post for convenience, don’t worry the notes below will be included in a section.)

Instructions for getting out of “Compositor Trouble”

(Tested on MX-21 and MX-23 Xfce)

The Problem:

Sometimes when trying to fine-tune the Compositor settings in MX Tweak, a wrong combination might result in everything freezing.

Solutions:

1. Default key sequence to kill the X server (AKA Forced Logout; this is only better in this situation than a forced Reboot, but still use with care): Ctrl+Alt+Backspace (System Keyboard app/Advanced tab). Most of the times luckily this is all that’s needed, and when logging back in you’ll be able to tweak the settings again normally.

2. If you can’t log back in to a working environment, and you remember that before you crashed you were tweaking Compton; then this, is likely the solution applicable to you. Compton creates a text file with all user defined parameters in a folder. If you delete that file, on the next desktop launch, Compton will recreate that file but this time with its stock default values. Therefore you can try to find the right settings again, but now knowing which combination definitely doesn’t work.

Execution:
-Reset Compton Settings to the Default-
Ctrl + Alt + F1 (Open Terminal at Login Screen)
Type then press Enter:
$: rm ~/.config/compton.conf

Then type, then press Enter:
$: sudo reboot
